Chapter 8 Toxics and Waste
By most accounts, the environment is cleaner today than it was several decades ago. This chapter examines trends in the generation and disposal of municipal (non-hazardous) solid waste, hazardous waste, and nuclear waste; the release and management of industrial toxic chemicals; the cleanup of abandoned hazardous waste sites; and the persistence of long-lived toxic chemicals that threaten human health and the environment. Success stories include: Increased municipal solid waste recycling and source reduction rates, offsetting increased waste generation rates; Growth in the number of facilities permitted to treat, store, or ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

E-waste everywhere, not enough to treat
It's a bit of an obvious thing to do, but Attero Recycling has its plant in a green building. About 10 kilometres from Roorkee on the road to Dehradun, it is difficult to miss. As we reach the gates, a security guard stops our car and says no vehicle can go in. As we enter on foot, the obvious gets accentuated. The walls of the plant have boards that talk about the benefits of recycling and how the plant reuses everything, harvests rainwater and uses solar lights. The 40-odd who work there wear green shirts on black trousers. It’s a sprawling unit. Spread over 10,000 square metres, the plant can treat 36,000 tonnes of ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Google Answers: Environmental impact of rubber flooring
I'm seeking information on the environmental impacts from - manufacture (emissions, spills, etc) - use (odors, indoor air quality) - disposal (or accidental burning) I'm interested in rubber floor made both from virgin rubber and from recycled rubber. Hello healthytom, and thank you for your question. Rubber flooring is generally considered a "low-impact," environmentally friendly building material. Virgin rubber is sustainable as it is derived from trees, and the manufacture of synthetic rubber also has a low impact on the environment. Flooring that contains recycled rubber, however, is cheaper and ...
Animal Rights: real vs manmade, pvc sewer pipe, environmental ...
I've heard that pleather, PVC & Vinyl are all more harmful overall than real skins/hides. I am a vegetarian and have always put animals first when shopping -(no leather, suede, fur, silk, etc), but I also greatly care about the environment. Are these alternative materials as harmful as people are claiming they are? Also, is it ok to still buy pleather and such materials without seeming like a hypocrite? Thanks in advance! Answer On an environmental standpoint, these alternatives are probably not the greatest. Pleather is a plastic and in order to actually be able to recycle pleather is to make sure that the company ...
